Design with Photography
This project was based around reimagining an artist's album cover, based on the music's emotional value, to create a poster promoting the album. Little Simz is my chosen artist, with the album 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert', that abbreviates to her name Simbi, short for Simbiatu. In designing the poster for this promotion, I needed to understand the mood I was trying to bring out, and given Little Simz's wide range of powerful emotions in her album, it was difficult to fit it all in one image, so I narrowed it down to the all-encompassing phrase 'silent and bold', contrasting words that tell a story of introverted confidence and the dynamicity of character.
Ideation
At first, I tried to experiment with abstract concepts, using objects, lighting and image editing to create this mood. However, after a lot of experimentation, I headed back to the drawing board, realising the key component missing was human form, an aspect Simz is always keen to use in her work to compliment emotion.
Design Development
Ultimately, the mysterious guarded figure creates a striking image with the colours popping out from within, the breaking of the frame is in line with the dynamicity of the character that you cannot contain in the box. The type as well, remains large but silent and complementary to the balance. A fitting representation of the album overall.
